Aged Care
Trish is delighted to announce that a model to teach carers for the aged basic Italian language, so that they can relate to and understand the people they care for at three aged Italian homes, will commence on 10 March, 2010. This model has started with the Italians but once the foundations are set the model can be leveraged across all cultures and languages.
Trish Rechichi, Author Same Dance Different Tune, has been working closely with the Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc. and the Central Institute of Technology to negotiate the terms of this business partnership for implementation this year for over twelve months. Stage One of the accredited course will be an eight week program with a review to be conducted at the end of the course. The course will be funded through the funds from the Book, Same Dance Different Tune and coordinated by Mrs Connie D' Orsogna who has been the Italian Lecturer at Central Institute of Technology for over 34 years.
"None of this would have been possible without the leadership and commitment from Mr Enzo Sirna AM, President of the Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc., who initiated the discussions and has been there totally focused on the outcome for the past year", says Trish Rechichi.
"The three groups involved include Italian Aged Care, Myvista and Italian Village Fremantle and each of the centres will host its own course. This means that Stage One of the course will be delivered in three different centres," says Mr Enzo Sirna AM. "The Italo-Australian Welfare and Cultural Centre Inc. has been delighted to take the lead role in this and to be associated with Central Institute of Technology for this model which will can be used for other CALD groups. The generous contribution by Trish Rechichi through Same Dance Different Tune needs to also be commended."
Mrs Connie D' Orsogna who believed in the program right from the start has said that "she cannot wait to play her part in this program and impart some basic language skills to the carers for the aged as she knows that it will make a big difference to the quality of their experience and life".

Catrina-Luz Aniere, program director at Millennium Kids, said with Ms Rechichi's support, they will be sending five youths to a leadership program in Great Western Woodlands outside Kalgoorlie.
"The students will undertake a series of programs to look specifically at how they can learn skills that combat climate change now through The Big Switch Experiment", she said. The Big Switch Experiment Project will train and motivate a core group of 300 young people as Climate Change Messengers through a one day workshop. A publicity campaign will take information to approximately 12,000 households. 1000 primary school students will take home their own Climate Busters Challenge action plan and Year 10 students will work with businesses so that the companies' employees each take home a household Energy Audit.
